Jeb Drummond is driving his heard of sheep across the Ponderosa when the Cartwrights pull up. Ben politely tells him to leave and Jeb asks for permission and offers to pay, Ben still refuses but reluctantly agrees to let him camp for the night.
The next morning Jeb decides he is not leaving and will stand his ground. He tells his young herdsman Billy to fetch two men and keep an eye out for the Cartwrights.
